Travel Tip - Be Aware.

During our stay in Sentosa we stayed in a budget youth hostel. It was very cheap and was extremely basic the rooms and whole complex was no thrills and little service. Customers would have to fend for themselves and meet their own needs. Certainly no free buffet breakfast like the previous stop, I don't even think this hostel had a cafe, or restaurant... all we could find was a vending machine.

So each morning while we were in Sentosa we had to go on a hike each day to locate a cafe somewhere that sold breakfast, or any food. We would have to walk down flights of stairs, walk for 20 to 30 minutes to a cafe, then wait until 11:00am until their doors would open, only to be able to purchase coffee and muffins. Then to return to the hotel consisted of; 20 minute walk back to location, walk up flights of stairs (sharing staircases with local snakes) open up hostel gate and to walk up more flights of stairs to get to your room - all in a high humidity.

So breakfast each morning became a huge chore... walking and walking, and waiting and waiting. We were there only a few days but it became a burden to want to have breakfast... but something happened on the last day when we took all our bags to the hostel office, waiting for the taxi.

While sitting in the foyer we saw something.. it was a small corridor that led to the hostel's breakfast restaurant. Yes, a restaurant there at the hostel, and apparently open from 9:00am, unlike the cafe's 11am start. We could not believe it. Do you cry or laugh!? All I can say is please be aware of what is available for you.

The reason why I am sharing these embarrassing moments with you, is in some hope that someone out there may learn from my foolish mistakes, and be bold enough to ask. People can only respond in a 'yes' or a 'no'...it is not that painful.

Sometimes people tell you what you are entitled to, and sometimes we are not told of what is out there for us - we must ask, go looking, investigate and be aware. Have you ever asked God what He has for you, His plan for your life, His will, His spiritual gifts? There is stuff there for you, I am sure!

During our holiday we were so tired from walking, our legs ached a fair bit, due to a lot of unnecessary work... this happens when one doesn't use or look for what is available.

Walking with you,

Akita.
