Walking.

Most people enjoy going shopping with someone. I often shop alone but do prefer to have someone come with me. Occasionally I take my teenage son with me which I enjoy, but I have noticed something when we go out together.

When walking with my son, he tends to have a fast pace and very quickly he is 6 metres in front of me and there I find myself alone, walking alone. I have on a few times called him back to me, and reminding him that I wish to walk with him.... and when you walk with someone that is what you do - you stay with them, beside them and you are close. No one gets lost, no one screams on ahead, ... as that would defeat the purpose of my invitation/design/purpose of wanting to shop/be with him.

My son's purpose is get the task done as soon as possible, yet my purpose (as a parent) is to be with him... how fast or slow the task gets done is not as important as the way it is done, and through being together. I can going shopping alone, I don't need him, but I do choose and desire to be with him.

God desires a relationship with us, He wants to walk with us.
Genesis 5 v 24: Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.
There is a difference between walking with God and merely living.
He(God), never flees or leaves us, He is not the distracted, selfish one.

Relationship are tricky sometimes, we have our own desires, pace, and it is easy to lose the focus and drift. Walking with someone - you need to stand beside them, not walk ahead, or drift off away, nor get left behind.

Blessings,

Akita.
