Milk or Steak?
Last month I was on a school camp doing the Cape to Cape walk for three
days, which was exhausting... then the next week I did the whole thing
over again with a different class. This camp was one where you have a
pack on your back and you have to carry everything you need in the pack.
The packs are very heavy, and if it rains well you keep walking.
The three day hike has many hills and slopes, there seemed to be more
upward bits than going down... not sure how that worked out. On your sixth
day of walking you long for a flat stretch of walking, it is so much easier...
but... after a while it becomes boring/plain and you long for a view or
some breeze. The steep hills are agonizing and at the start look too big
to conquer but slowly slowly you reach the top.
At the top you are a little tired from the work you have just done, energy
just used but there is a reward: views, breaks, sense of accomplishment
- my favourite bit were the views from the tops of the cliffs, overlooking
the Indian Ocean. Yes it hurts to get there but its worth the cost. When
you are battling uphill you may cry out for a flat bit, for the easy stuff...
for some easy to drink milk... but when you put in the hard yards, you
grow, get teeth,and now can eat steak.
Often it is the hardest road that leads to the most satisfaction.
The challenge is to take on the hills, move into higher levels of your
growth/faith/self control. The hills are not easy, but so worth the view.
Milk or Steak.... which do you want?
It gets hard... your path may lead you past sticks that scratch your skin,
you may get blisters and scars from the travel but we need to keep our
eye on the end prize.
Blessings,
Akita.

1 Corinthians 9 v 24-27
Do you not know that in a race all
the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to
get the prize.
Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.
They do it to get a crown that will not last;
but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly;
I do not fight like a man beating the air.
No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached
to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
