Pennies or Pounds?
My Grandmother past away six months ago. She was a lovely
English lady who was wise and had no issue with giving comments, remarks,
and suggestions whether you had asked for them or not. She gave her opinion
on nearly everything, some of those remarks were "gems".
My favourite comment was this advice she gave me: "Look after
the pennies, and the pounds will look after themselves". It took
me a while to understand as I was just a little girl and lived in Australia
where we have cents and dollars... no pennies and no pounds.
After time reflecting on this comment I understood what was the moral
of the saying, and it was: that if one takes great care of the pennies/small
amounts of money, then with time the pounds/ larger amounts of money will
appear on it's own accord. As we all know that it is easy to buy small
things quickly with out much thought as they do not cost too much, but
if we do that often the small amounts become a large amount.
There is more to this message than meets the eye - as it can apply to
all areas of our life - not just money. If we can focus on the smaller
things and do them well, look after them well, grow them well, then..
with time the larger items appear, and larger growth will come. So if
we can be careful with small items then the bigger ones should be very
safe.
I love the pounds, they are of more value than the pennies, but if I work
on the smaller things and have them in order, then I am more likely to
gain and keep the pounds. It is easy to tell a big lie if you make many
small white lies, but if you are careful with the small things, the individual
people, the coins in your hand, then the rest will take care of its self.
Our Lord values, knows, and cares about the smallest things in our lives,
do we do the same?
Blessings,
Akita.
