Are You A Sunflower?
I had planted some vegetable seeds a few weeks ago and now they are growing well in a small seedling tray. I noticed that they were all leaning in one directing, desperately trying to reach for the sunlight. So I twisted the tray around hoping that with time they may balance out and look a little straighter.
What suprised me was that an hour later when I walked past I noticed that they had already moved and looked a lot straighter but again leaning towards the sun. It interested me how quickly they bent and moved.
This movement reminded me of some sunflower plants we once had growing in our garden.
Sunflowers are stunning plants which rotate the head of the flower daily to follow the sun, the ways of the sun - so through out the day it tilts it's head to face the sun as much as possible. Sunflowers were probably given their name as they do resemble the bright sun in our sky. They are named after what they resemble. I wonder when people see us whether they see who we are trying to resemble: the Son. Our challenge is to be as Christ like as possible... to be Sonflowers.
The only way to fully blossom is to follow Him and bend to His will. I can be quite stubborn sometimes and the concept of forfeiting my own agenda/will to resemble His is a constant challenge for me - and maybe for some of you.
Are you that flexible that you can bend when He bends, move when He moves, shine when He shines, look to Him and seek Him always? Will people see the resemblance between you and the Son?
Blessings,
Akita.
